La jeune fille sort de sa rêverie ; elle visite le parc historique actuel et le cadran solaire où le nom de son arrière-grand mère est gravé dans la pierre, et célèbre un jour d’été aux retrouvailles annuelles d’Africville.

Un livre dont la version anglaise originale a remporté le Prix Marilyn Baillie, le Prix Lillian Shepherd, et a été finaliste, entre autres, du Prix du Gouverneur Général et du prix Elizabeth Mrazik-Cleaver.

When a young girl visits the site of Africville, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, she remembers the stories she’s heard from her family.

She imagines what the community was once like – the brightly painted houses nestled into the hillside, the field where boys played football, the pond where all the kids went rafting, the bountiful fishing, the huge bonfires. Emerging from her reverie, she visits the present-day park and the sundial where her great-grandmother's name is carved in stone, and celebrates a summer day at the annual Africville Reunion.

The original English version of this book won the Marilyn Baillie Award, the Lillian Shepherd Award, and was a finalist for a Governor General’s Award and the Elizabeth Mrazik-Cleaver Award, among others.

Shauntay Grant

Shauntay Grant est descendante de Loyalistes Noirs, les Jamaican Maroons et les Black Refugees, qui ont immigré au Canada il y a de ça 200 ans. Écrivaine et artiste de la scène, elle a gagné le prix Joseph S. Stauffer et a publié plusieurs albums. Diplomée d’une maitrise en Beaux-Arts de l’université de Colombie Britannique et d’un Baccalauréat de journalisme à l’Université King’s College, Shauntay Grant donne également des cours dans le programme de Creative Writing à l’université Dalhousie de Halifax, où elle réside.

Shauntay Grant is a descendant of the Black Loyalists, the Jamaican Maroons, and the Black Refugees, who immigrated to Canada two hundred years ago. She is the author of many books and a performance artist, for which she won the Joseph S. Stauffer Award. Holder of a Master of Fine Arts from the University of British Columbia and a Bachelor of Journalism from the University of King’s College, Shauntay Grant also teaches courses in the Creative Writing program at Dalhousie University in Halifax, where she resides.

Eva Campbell is an artist and illustrator who teaches visual arts and lives in Victoria, British Columbia. She has displayed her work in Canada, the United States, the Great Britain, Barbados, and Ghana. Eva Campbell has won numerous awards for her illustration work.

Josephine C. Watson

Josephine Watson est une poète, chanteuse et comédienne originaire de Fredericton (N.-B.). Du jazz au blues, du rock au reggae, de la poésie spoken word au théâtre, Josephine est une grande artiste de la scène. Elle a été la première femme nommée « Poète Flyée » de la ville de Moncton.

Josephine Watson is a poet, singer, and actor from Fredericton (NB). With her blues jazz, reggae rock, and spoken word poetry at the theatre, Josephine is an important performing artist. She was the first woman named Poet Laureate of Moncton.
